Acropolis Rally, one of the most famous and distinguished car race events in the world, is the only international motorsport event held in Greece, while it is one of the oldest globally.
With a history spanning over 70 years, this race has established itself as one of the most demanding and challenging in the World Rally Championship calendar. Its routes traverse the wild landscapes and mountains of mainland Greece, offering a unique challenge to drivers and their vehicles.
The first event was held in 1952 by ELPA (Hellenic Touring and Automobile Club), while the following year was renamed Rally Acropolis and since 1956 the event has been part of the annual racing calendar of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). It quickly became known for itsdemanding special stages that require speed, explosive power and technical accuracy from the drivers.
The year 1970 it became part of the World Rally Championship (WRC).
Rally Acropolis' special stages include a variety of terrains and conditions, consisting of dangerous rocky tracks, narrow forest lanes and speedy open sections on dirt roads. Drivers must cope with problems such as dust, mud, heat nd sudden storms, as well as the uncertainty of road surface changes under extreme conditions.
Apart from the legendary mountains of Fthiotida, the heart of the Rally Acropolis beats in the city of Lamia as the event's Service Park is located in the facilities of the Panhellenic Exhibition of Lamia.
Over the years, Rally Acropolis has gained devoted followers and every year thousands of spectators from all over the world are watching the race either in person or through its official news channels.
